(Jackson Hole News & Guide) At Pine Glades, Jackson's newest neighborhood, you don't have to choose between the privacy of a mountain retreat and the convenience of in-town living. Enjoying the outdoors is as easy as stepping into a pair of ski boots, putting on a pair of hiking shoes or rolling the mountain bike out of the garage and setting off on miles of national forest trails. And with the historic Jackson Town Square only seven blocks away, it's just as easy to enjoy the comforts of civilization, whether it's a concert at the Center for the Arts or a day of browsing art galleries.
Pine Glades will be located at the base of Snow King Mountain on 17 acres of land covered with several thousand mature Douglas fir trees. The developer took an environmentally conscious approach to the design, clustering the homes to leave 12 acres of open space and preserve 85 percent of the trees. Some of his inspiration came from Grand Teton National Park.
"On or near the top of everyone's wish list for a home in Jackson Hole is a natural forested setting," Hussey said. "My vision for the property is the Jenny Lake Overlook road, where the trees come down right to the edge of the road."
When Pine Glades is completed in the summer of 2009, it will consist of 27 market townhomes as well as 12 deed-restricted condominiums priced to be affordable to Jackson Hole's working families, but built with the same exterior architecture as the market units. Homeowners will access Pine Glades through a well-lit, spacious Alps-style tunnel from South Cache Street that will accommodate cyclists, motorists and pedestrians. The initial stages of construction will begin this month, and by fall the first phase of townhomes will be ready for owners to move in.
The townhomes in Pine Glades will range in size from nearly 2,700 to 2,800 square feet, with three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and underground two-car garages. The custom design features vaulted ceilings, lots of large windows for enjoying Teton and forest views, open floor plans, and gas fireplaces with stone chimneys.
The eco-friendly aspects of Pine Glades may not be as noticeable as the aesthetic qualities, but they're just as important a part of the development's plans. Pine Glades is on track to be the first residential project in Wyoming to earn the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design) certification. Energy consumption is estimated to be 40 percent less than in a typical free standing single-family home of the same size.
"We're starting to see people interested in ‘green' homes, and we expect to see more of them in the future," said Scott Singleton, an associate broker at Sotheby's International Realty. "The kind of person who wants to live in Jackson Hole is here to enjoy the outdoors. Pine Glades is an opportunity to own a high-end home in town while doing your part to protect the environment."
